Women's Suffrage : NUWSS [National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies]: " Organisers & Organising Secretaries" High Quality Modern Reproduction Enamel badge, in hard enamel with 3D figure to centre. Complete with FREE carrying pouch in purple velvet.
Size: 30mm height at tallest point. Approx 23mm at widest point.
Materials: Enamelled colours, in a hard enamel finish. Gold plated figure to centre, the surround and gold-plated safety-pin with locking ring to rear for easy, safe and hardy affixing to garments etc. Comes individually contained within purple velvet carrying pouch.
Condition: Mint condition. New Manufacture and unused.
Description: Featuring a hand-sculpted figure to the centre of the badge, and surrounded by the words [at top] "The Union of N.U.W.S.S" and [at bottom] "Organisers & Organising Secretaries".
This badge is an EXACT replica of a badge issued to the organising secretaries and organisers within the women's suffrage organisation in the UK, known as the N.U.W.S.S, who were suffragettes more inclined to bring about change by democratic and political, peaceful methods rather than by the often violent, disruptive and high-profile methods deployed by organisations such as the W.S.P.U, in the main.
This is an EXCEEDINGLY RARE badge to see, and certainly the opriginal has a value that would stretch into the lower thousands of pounds if one were to become available for sale.
N.U.W.S.S insignia were issued in smaller numbers, in general, and thus their scarcity is heightened today.
We know of only one original of this badge in the public holding within the UK, and that is at the London Museum.
Rather than take a pressing or impression from the original, we have commissioned an artist to hand sculpt the mould, and there is virtually no difference AT ALL, in the figure of the woman blowing the trumpet call of women's rights, from that of the original and of this facsimile.
